Windows Live Movie Maker – Sound but no video – Nvidia 285.62

  • Posted: February 2, 2012

I was taking some simple iPhone .movs today and converting them to DVD but realized I was having issues with the video not displaying in Windows Live Movie Maker. The files played fine in Windows Media Center which was weird. I at first thought it was codecs but after further analysis, that wasn’t it. The sound was find but I just had a black box. Even if I tried converting the video and saving it, it would then play with no video in Windows Media Player.

I ended up not finding many answers for this but decided to check my video card drivers. I was running a Nvidia Geforce GTX570 with 285.62. I decided to give the beta drivers a try; currently 295.51 as of this writing. That ended up fixing it.

I guess there was a bug with 285.62 for Windows Media Center and it must have also fallen under WLMM. Anyway simple fix after an hour of research. Hope this can help someone else out.
